塑膠跑道在我國已有30多年歷史,分為全塑型、混合型和顆粒型,主要由面層和基礎層構成,厚度一般為13mm。全塑型塑膠跑道的面層由澆注型聚氨酯(RCPU)和防滑膠粒(EPDM或RCPU膠粒)組成,RCPU成本高,因此跑道造價較高;混合型塑膠跑道使用RCPU作主體材料,加入10%～25%廢舊輪胎膠粒,上部撒防滑膠粒,造價比全塑型塑膠跑道低;顆粒型塑膠跑道以廢輪胎膠粒為主體材料(60%～70%),用RCPU作粘合劑,采用攤鋪法施工制成,造價最低,但施工所用的攤鋪機、噴涂膠粒包膠機等鋪設設備需要進口,一次性投入很高,且性能較前兩種差。目前國內塑膠跑道以混合型為主。以上各類塑膠跑道均需與瀝青路面基礎良好粘合,基礎造價一般80～120元·m-2,塑膠跑道總造價一般230～450元·m-2。雖然塑膠跑道彈性適中,美觀實用,能提高運動員比賽成績和保護運動員免受意外事故傷害,但造價高,至今未普及應用。
